Nurse Hubbell’s Recipe for Preventing or Reducing Length of a COLD!!
What I do as soon as I feel like I’m starting to get sick with a cold.
(these should all be available at your local pharmacy)
*** Be sure to read & follow directions carefully!!
1. Take Airborne – boosts immune system with Vitamin C & 13 other vitamins & minerals (take 3 times a day); the store brand is just as good; this was developed by a teacher.
2. Take Zicam cold remedy – reduces duration & symptoms of cold; this is a homeopathic remedy; read & follow the directions carefully; get the brand name, the store brand tastes terrible.
3. Take Echinacea – boosts immune system; don’t take for more than 7 days, it becomes less effective.
4. If you think it might be the FLU – take oscillococcinum – another homeopathic remedy shown to prevent or reduce symptoms of the flu. This needs to be taken very early as soon as the flu symptoms start.
5. Fluids – increase clear liquids; hot tea, especially green tea is good; for sore throat take “Throat Coat” tea – boosts immune system, reduces mucous.
6. DIET - lots of healthy foods like veggies & fruit!! Avoid dairy products as they increase thickness of secretions (mucous). Avoid sugar as it competes with vitamin C for the same receptors, so more sugar less of healthy vitamins that work to keep you healthy.
7. SLEEP!! Get as least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, more for children.
